Nah its gotten worse here from what I understand. Clark County developed magnet schools or something for the smarter kids but then people got mad that their kids weren't smart enough to get in and complained enough to where now the magnet schools suck too.
Meh idk. I went to the magnet school for a semester in 2001 I think (yes because 9/11 happened while i was there), and it was in the middle of a Vegas high school. Like the kind with the metal detectors where as a white kid you are in the minority. Also ALL the students in the actual program were Asian and they excluded me at that school.

So I went back to Boulder City. Rich mormon town southeast of Vegas. At junior year of high school, was able to do a dual-credit thing at the community colleges around Vegas/Henderson to finish out high school, and they hooked me up with crazy shit like a no-show job on the campus so I was making $14/hr to go to class...school in vegas was pretty freaking sweet to be honest. Also after interning for a local congressman and meeting the student body prez there, he tried to make me inheritor of his position of student body president of the CC, but I was leaving for a university out of state so I passed up the opportunity to be student body prez of a 30,000 student COLLEGE system as a high school senior / college frosh.

Although I did get to be a senator. The student council budget was in excess of 3 million dollars because of the student body size. Once I was a senator I got to quit going to class, too, as student council business trumped my requirements to show up for the required high school classes. So I played Vanguard til 6am and slept in, printed re-dated minutes for meetings to cover my paper trail, and had a ton of dough piled into my account, and a ton of political experience, and the life experience to take care of myself, all before HS graduation where I was valedictorian btw despite basically not attending my last year.

Oh yeah and one last detail -- the student body of the dual-credit HS was 80% female, since it depended on responsible students who could transport themselves and not get in trouble. So theoretically and literally there was a LOT of female attention.

Also, didn't smoke pot til I was 18 hehe.

Vegas school worked if you worked it. I had a really hard time in middle school so my high school turnaround was pretty amazing, and I can only credit the freedom I was given from emotional oppression for that "spreading of wings". If grandparents hadn't had a Boulder City address to keep me out of the ghetto school zoning, too, who knows. I was supposed to be stuck in shitty highly integrated schools in Henderson the entire time. Aw, I'm feeling nostalgic.
