The covid payouts weren't any different than any other social program really. They were valuable and necessary for some, and for others it just made them more dependent and less likely to take jobs.
Even now, there is a record high number of job openings, and a record low number of people willing to take them. Many are making more from covid unemployment than they'd make at an actual job, so it's not surprising. This sounds great and all until you notice that supply chains are currently failing. Many professionals in many industries are quitting outright over vaccine mandates. This is bad policy, and it's ultimately hurting everyone.
