If you watch news outlets like CNN, ABC and CBS, you would think Kyle is totally guilty and that if he's set free then it's because his white supremist friends i.e. the judge and the jury did it for him (sorry that's how it's spelled now for the idiots, don't aks me). You would believe that he 'crossed state lines' and that is somehow legally important, and you will believe that the rioters were protesters, mostly peaceful, and you will hear over and over that when you bring a gun somewhere, you give up the right to self-defense.
I'm not talking about a racist nutbag like Joy Reid on fringe MSNBC, who talks about 'white vigilantism' and 'white male tears' and stokes up racial hatred. I'm talking about mainstream outlets that regular Americans get their information from. Then people wonder where riots and the anger comes from. The citizens of this country are just outrage clickbait fodder. The only thing that matters is ad revenue, and the only way to get that is get people angry.
I know it's true because I've been to editorial meetings no longer run by editorial, but by revenue. Like the entire meeting was run by a guy who never stopped talking about 'content velocity' and 'impressions' and 'viewability'. And the editorial staff was carefully instructed on how to craft their little words to achieve these goals. Building a long-time loyal audience through accuracy and thoroughness is out; people have so many news choices now that only outrage works, because you need to out-outrage the other outragers in an outrage spiral.
Truth is now narrative. Narrative can be shaped and monetized. Truth...not so much.
