Welcome back to Norrath.
Enchanter is a great class, the main hurdle is just sticking with it through the early levels where you're a bit under-powered compared to other casters. I think it starts getting good in the 20s and then it just keeps getting stronger. You might find this enchanter guide useful along with other stuff on the wiki:
