I was really surprised by this honestly. Really seemed like something you would see under Trump. The data so far clearly shows that omicron can remain contagious for longer than 5 days and the CDC basically admitted that this was a decision made for the ease of businesses because they admitted that omicron can be contagious longer than 5 days.

They’re hoping that if you’re vaccinated it’s not a significant level of contagiousness such that wearing a proper mask will ensure you can’t infect others. That I do think is accurate, but still seems dumb to take the risk.
It just seemed really coincidental considering “Delta's CEO asked the CDC for a 5-day isolation. Some flight attendants feel at risk” and right after it gets changed

I just wanted to show how government bodies, even ones based on scientific research are not infallible and maybe can be “bought”

If there is a way to make covid potentially go away completely, it seems like it would be herd immunity. Then, considering Omicron seems to be a strain with a significantly lower lethality or hospitalization rate than Delta, then maybe it isn’t a bad idea to not attempt to strongly restrict its spread. But if that was the CDC’s reasoning, you would expect them to come out and announce it as their reasoning
