I just broke up with my boyfriend because of his interest in highly disturbing Internet material. I feel disgusted.

My (now ex) boyfriend and I have dated for about a year. A few days ago, I was in the living room with him and decided to glance over at his phone to see what he was looking at. Before you accuse me of invading privacy, this is just something we did. Always open and honest with each other. He’d glance at my phone and vice versa just to see what we are looking at and maybe strike a conversation about what we are viewing.
Anyways, he was on Reddit watching a video of some guy slowly getting his head cut off.
I have him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he pressed on a link that was a bait-and-switch, like you’d see on r/Unexpected. So I said nothing. Until a few minutes later I checked back and he was watching a similar video of a man getting tortured.
I asked him what the hell he was watching, and he seemed confused, as if he wasn’t doing anything wrong. He told me that he watches this stuff sometimes out of “morbid curiosity” and it doesn’t affect anybody if he watches it so nobody should care.
I packed my stuff and immediately left. After sitting on it for a day I told him via text that I didn’t want to see him anymore because I wasn’t comfortable being close to somebody who gets enjoyment out of people suffering. He tried to reason with me but honestly I didn’t care. I’m all for people having different interests than me, but awful cartel videos are where I cross the line. Nobody should be watching those for any reason.
Why is my taste in men so fucking bad.
