Most porters are in their 30s or 40s, so I'll use hill giants as an example of an equivalent way to make platinum. How much mana does it take to kill a hill giant, which gives an average of 25pp in plat and droppables? How much mana does it take to port someone? I'll let you do the math, it's not difficult.

How much time did you save by porting compared to running/boating? Did it save you 10 minutes? 30? Do you value your time? Tip taking the time you saved/recovered into consideration. That's what you're receiving. The mana spent by the porter is irrelevant.
The time saved by the recipient for ports/rezzes is why those services came to be a service valued enough to tip for to begin with.
