I consider that the best example of what
not to add to a MMORPG. Expansions can and do permanently change games but an in-game player-controlled event never should. And no major MMORPG since has done it so that's good.
The number one feature of a MMORPG is how static and unchanging the world actually is. There are clever uses of instancing that can "change" the world for players as they progress through quests but nothing any one player can do will forever change the game for another player. It's not good MMORPG design and I'm happy only Everquest has made that mistake lol.
