Wurmslayer was most certainly never 2hp. Were there even 2hp weapons in the game prior to Velious? Gordon's post about needing a "polearm" skill, aka 2 handed piercing, would indicate that it hadn't existed at that point.
As for the erroneous change what he is saying is that it definitely originated as a 2hs weapon and was accidentally changed to 1 handed piercing instead of 1 handed slashing as they had intended. The 1 handed slash change was implemented pending the next patch. The only thing that can really be argued is whether it was ever a piercing weapon on Live before it went from 2-hs to 1-hs.

I have no proof, but this is correct from what I remember. It was 2HS > 1HP > 1HS in that order. Then it went from being PRI/SEC/RNG to PRI only.
Also, I'm pretty sure Tantor's Tusk from Velious was the first 2HP in the game. It also might have been labled as just "piercing" but took both hands --- ZAM has it listed as a 2HP though.
