Unfortunately their goal isn't improving the past; only replicating it. Likely their present is so compelling that they cannot imagine that any alterations of the past could result in anything but disappointment - well except when we leverage our knowledge of the past to benefit ourselves. I saw some experimental archaeologists trying to make a celtic chariot so they could better understand the technological problems and solutions of bronze age island peoples. I remember one of the students also added a NO2 button, spoiler and sound system because why wouldn’t you want to improve things of the past.
