This is a bit misleading because Japanese people use the Gregorian calendar and it's 2025 just like everyone else.
What this refers to is the legacy calendar system still used for some formal documents. So it's not "7" but rather "Reiwa-7", using a combination of the Emperor's name and the number of years since he was enthroned. Acknowledged as archaic, but hey, tradition!
