Always amazes me that EQ made such an impression on so many of you who were children or teenagers when the game launched. EQ's slow paced and rather 'boring' to the attention spans typical of that age bracket, then or now. I had Atari as a child and those types of games are much more typical of what I think of as "kid's games." They're short, no depth, quick to get into and out of, and no great appeal to adults.

For me it was a combination of being infatuated with 3d games generally, cause I made tons of quake and doom levels and shit before EQ, plus the novelty of an MMO cause I played ultima online at launch before EQ came out, and it was still the wild west where the genre hadn't been optimized into generic hell yet. There was UO, EQ and I think Asheron's call which I never played. Now there's like 1500 free to play mmos where you can pay to start with a level 60 who cares whatever horse thing. Same reason I hated diablo 4 really.
