As for item shop stuff.
The Hidden Forest had donor gear over 15 years ago. IIRC some items up to 60 USD per <Was it CoH orb? I can't recall>.
Great server. Never shut down.
The real issue what in fact that Fangbreaker had competition. And Lost. Be it poor ruleset. Everyone STILL asks for just letting us play Zerker/Beast at launch and they absoultely refuse because "balance" which is silly. Classic EQ was never remotely balanced. Donor gear was just a side thing for lawsuit. Never the reason for it.
