The problem is that those rules really sap the fun out of the game, especially that second one. If trainers were just a bit more difficult and didn't always have shitty AI the games would be much more entertaining.
The AI thing is the biggest problem considering Pokemon is a game built around startegy. Unfortunately the trainers were coded to just randomly pick whatever move each round, when the player is prescient of the basic mechanics of the game like weaknesses. Considering almost every trainer in the game uses 1 or 2 types of pokemon exclusively, it's so easily exploitable. And it's not realistic, no human player uses 2 Staryu 3 Starmie and a Squirtle. And even if a Trainer has a Tentacruel out and a Golem as backup, he won't switch if you bring out a Jolteon.
