These ice giants were affected when the coin drops were changed for the ones outdoors.

I had planned on doing some research as to whether they actually dropped 49 research components, in classic, but have not had the time. Every single mob that can drop 49 research mats, should also be dropping Diamonds, Blue Diamonds, Black Sapphires and Jacinth I dont ever recall them dropping these gems.
