At least a couple months ago when I was doing it. People were selling the moonstones to the merchant downstairs in the warrior guild. You can buy them, go over to McNeal Jocub, turn them in. Sell the booze back to him & cut most of your losses for buying the Moonstones. Easy faction & xp since that part of the quest doesn't have negative hits.
Biggest pain is the moonstones don't stack so you have to fill bags with them, Blackburrow Stout is so you can bulk sell it back at least to keep the coin at minimum.
