Solo Ramza begins from the VERY first battle (although you technically have Delita on your team), but you do not place any characters besides Ramza on the field, EVER. And no random battles.
The first battle is one of the hardest, it took me like 7 tries just due to RNG of getting face-raped on the 2nd turn. (O look, her zodiac makes her melee 2x as effective against you...restart).
