From my brief enchanter playing days on P99 I noticed there is still a difference between human vision, infravision and ultravision - and the difference between humans and dark elves is still significant.
But yeah, I actually couldn't bear playing on Live back in the day with out at least infravision due to it straining my eyes. In fact my wizard was a dark elf purely because I didn't want headaches from staring too hard at the screen
