npcs will take anything you give them, and will attempt to equip it.
As per classic, when you kill the npc, they should drop everything that you gave them.
(Except for NO DROP items. NPC will NOT drop a NO DROP item that you gave him.)
On Project 1999, NPC doesn't even give back the droppable items when they die
