Hello Everyone!
Today I am hopefully going to bring some helpful knowledge about IRC.

NOTE

This is just an editted guide I made for a game I was a mod on. If people want me to fix everything to make it for Eqp99 just let me know.

Just replace everything that is the server info and stuff with p99's server stuff. And no registry that I know of, so ignore that.

What do you use IRC for you ask? Well. IRC is beneficial not only to tribes, worlds, different forums, games, gamers, game developers, but it has many different uses because it is a simple tool to get fast chat to large amounts of people, quickly. Think AIM, but on a larger scale.

You can follow along with me on this creation of an IRC guide by using a client based IRC program such as mIRC or HydraIRC.

I personally use mIRC as it is easiest for me and it is easy to explain.

I hope you gain some insight into this idea of IRC, or really big fun quick chat thingy.

How to Chat with all my EQ Buddies using mIRC:

The following steps help you using mIRC efficiently.

Step 1: Download mIRC from mIRC.com.

Step 2:After Downloading you will open the program and you will find a screen like:

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Here you can put in whatever you please, but I’d suggest putting a nickname you use frequently and are known by.

Step 3: Using the EQ Server

Find the server tab.

Step 4: Click Add

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Step 5: Enter in the following information as shown in spoiler

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

or just use Description: EQ, Server: irc.eqemulator.net, port: 6667, group: EQ.

Click OK.

Step 6: Find the Options tab as highlighted in blue in this spoiler.

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

And Click on the Perform button.

A screen like this one will pop up.

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Next to “All Networks” is an add button. Click this. Find Tribalwars ( This is why we put tribalwars as the group name in server creation). After doing this click the enable perform button on the top left and enter something along the lines of this into perform box.

/nick <yournicknameyouwant>
/join #project1999

What this will is allow you to change your name automatically to that every time you join the server, and join the tribalwars chat automatically!

Step 7: We are almost there!

Jump back to Servers tab [spoil][You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.][/spoil] and again find Everquest group in the list of names.

Underneath it should be a smaller Everquest title. Select this, and push the select button which is on the right hand side.

We are done!

Go back to the original page where you entered your name and click the connect button.

Congrats you are now using IRC outside of Java.

If you have any questions, or somehow in my creation of the tutorial I screwed up along the way please post here and let me know!
