Looks like he's taking the offline elements of Wing Commander, adding some flavour from Homeworld and trying to make it multiplayer like EVE. Want to say I love it, and it'll do well... but it depends on the developers not making it pay to win and all the usual other stumbling blocks of recent online multiplayer games.
All the graphic detail there - how is the average PC going to cope with 100+ ships turning up for a huge battle?
