Default How to defend West Freeport

You've seen it a hundred times... trolls, ogres, and stuck-up high elves killing guards in our beloved city of Freeport. Well today, the tide begins to turn. I am passing along a strategy that has been quite successful for me over the last several weeks. Please note that you should adopt this strategy at your own risk — while it has been fruitful and rewarding for me personally, it has resulted in the banning of a half-dozen accounts in the process.

The Spot
Take a nice, long look at the diagram of West Freeport below:

The key label here is X. This is where guard-killers usually hang out since the guards generally don't path into the center area. Some get creative and levitate up to the ledge marked X (Upper). These are the spots you want to focus on, and now I shall outline the strategy.

The Strategy

Here's what you do:
  • Create a new Human Magician or Wizard, since they're the classes with a level 1 nuke already provided. You can also roll a cleric for unpredictability's sake, but you'll have to get a few coins first to purchase their level 1 nuke.
  • Position yourself at the spot on the map marked 2.
  • Target Guard Jacsen who is standing at the spot on the map marked 1.
  • Fire off your nuke and wait for the red "resisted" message.
  • Without delay, follow either the blue or purple line to your destination.
It is tempting to follow the shortest path on the map (i.e the blue line), especially if you don't have SoW, but have patience! If you always run diagonally you can follow the purple line which is far more effective. Why, you ask? Because it aggroes many guards along the way, gives you an opportunity to see if your target has moved to the EFP zone line in the meantime, and allows you to sneak behind the "X" spot without you (or the guards) being seen until the last possible moment.

Helpful Tips and Levitated Targets
  • If possible, make your new character female. This makes it easier to score free buffs at the WFP gate or EC tunnel. Levitate is important if your target is at X (Upper).
  • When you camp one character and start the next, try to mix up the names to avoid tipping off your stubborn target. Don't execute this strategy with "Kibbit" and then return with "Fibbit", for example.
  • Go /anon if you want to try to flank your target. If you're spotted in North or East Freeport there's a good chance you won't surprise anyone at the zone lines.
  • Once you have Levitate, head to the tree at spot 3. After a few tries you'll discover you can climb the tree and reach the upper rails of the city. You can also do this several other ways (including the front gate area), but you'll likely tip off your target much sooner that way.
  • Once you're up on the ledges, simply nuke a guard (or six) and lev-run your way to your desired target.

May this information help you in your defense of our beloved Freeport.
