Dollars to donuts, had this happened as a real life interaction, the Dawn Believers would have backed off and not been contentious. Don't think anyone was really in the wrong here, but it does seem to be a fairly common "I'm gonna stand my ground cuz this is on-line and won't get punched in the face" MMO interaction.
