So little information and so many things it could be. Has the sound ever worked in EQ? Does sound work in other programs/applications?
Some basic things to check would be:
Options in game (Alt-O) and check the volume sliders
From the main menu (before logging in), you can click on Options and make sure Sound is enabled
Check the Windows volume mixer and make sure the Everquest client has proper volume
