Not really. This same argument took place back in 1824 when Adams won the Presidency. The rule stuck then and sticks now almost 200 years later. It sticks 200 years later because it has merit. The people who didn't vote for him can complain but doesn't mean they aren't a bunch of whiners that are going against the precedent since the electoral college. What happened back in 1824? People whined and created the Democratic party from the Democratic-Republican party.
