Lol. I remember so many people turning up their noses at P1999 when we were launching. Because "EQClassic will be out in no time." Here we are 10 years later, with a second PVE server about to be launched. EQClassic still seemingly never going to launch. I am super surprised to still see EQClassic chatter at this point.
I admit, I was one of those. I was a hardcore follower of EQClassic from the time it peeked it's head out in late 2007 and it actually became a solid community starting in early 2008. I still go to the forums a couple times a month to say hi or check in.

I just don't think their vision can become a reality, and if it can, it will not be for some time. I played in the first auditor (beta) test and leveled up a Cleric from 1-60, with no experience boost, in the tutorial zone. Yes, no other zone, just the tutorial zone, from 1-60...

And I didn't even care. I just wanted to help in some way, to bring classic EQ back to the limelight. I reported as many bugs as I could, and then logged off and never went back. I could still log into the beta if I wanted to right now.

They have a great set of people over there, and I kinda feel bad for the one or two developers that still exist. EQClassic is a great example of what happens when drama gets in the way of a great project!

But, they have to do so much over there and it has already been twelve years. I just do not believe you can reverse-engineer the trilogy client to work again. And even if you could, you would need more than the 1 or 2 (if they are lucky) devs that are working on their own time to make it a reality.

Anyway, to get away from my rambling, when I first heard about Project 1999, I thought it was going to be some loose wanna-be Omens of War era-EQ game that looked a little classic. Basically, I thought it was going to be the same, sad, sorry excuse for a classic server that Sony would put out when they would release their "progression servers".

Those things were a complete joke!

But as I played and saw the dedication of the devs and (some) of the community, I realized that even though there was a long way to go when they launched in October of 2009, there was no limitation as to how far they would go.

And now look! There will never be anything this close again to the classic experience!
