Silk threads and silk swatches should be 'no fail'. The only other thread I have found in reference to this issue is below

This thread includes some misinformation - it claims no fail combines should only be unfailable after the trivial is exceeded.
This is an unsubstantiated claim - no fail combines should be successful from zero skill. That is why they are called no fail!

Silk threads and swatches being failable is a legacy compromise of a blue bug where spiderling and spider silks were prematurely stackable.
Silk thread and silk swatch need to be made no fail from day 0, and the components (spiderling silk and spider silk) need to be stackable starting some time in velious.
