Just got the same laptop, had the same problem trying to connect using gentoo, would have to log in and out multiple times (with a wired connection). Had the same problem with debian as well. On arch it's been different so far, only using wifi the servers have been showing up the first try every time with no special steps having been taken. It really seems quite random and I have no explanation. When I had a desktop I ran into this problem using arch.
