Having lived in Asia during my youth I can tell you now one of the best life experiences you can have is experiencing other cultures.
People in first world countries (aus/usa) should definitely do it, our grand fathers left their origins in euroland and left some of the best life style choices behind like not working 60-80 hour weeks, social communities etc.
