What Class should I play?

Totally newb to EQ PvP. Looking for a class that's capable of soloing and does well in PvP. Originally planned to do Necro but was advised by several people not to go that route for PvP reasons. Necro's not so great in PvP? Would prefer something NOT Shm/Enc cause those are my main chars on Blue atm and want something different. How are Druids overall? I've always felt like they were mostly useless except for port bots on Blue but I've been told on Red they're a lot better. I feel like being able to port would be a huge bonus considering there's no /who all Dial ports available 24/7 on Red. I had considered going Wizard but few ppl said with upcoming resist changes they might not be as good as they are now?

Classes I'm currently considering: Druid, Wizard, Mage or Cleric but I'm open to all suggestions

Any and all advice appreciated. What would you roll as your first Red char if you could do it all over again?
