Having troubles logging in

I seem to be having some problems logging in. I have downloaded and changed the eq changes file that didnt work as it was saying on the character select screen that my spell files needed updating. So then I tried using the eqemulater and i got the same result. Does anybody have any ideas what the problem could be? any help would be appreciated
