Default New Necro Questions

Hey all,

I'm returning after 11 years away. I loaded P99 for the first time today, and I was pretty close to tears as I ran through Neriak, so many memories came flooding back [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I've been searching the forums, but can't seem to find any sort of Necro gear guide. I remember some of the gear I had back then -

Flowing Black Robe / Shiny Metallic Robe, Harvester, Stein of Mogguk / Glowing Black Stone, etc... are these easy or hard to get? Is there better gear I should save for?

Any insight into the way I should gear up and approx pricing is appreciated. I'm only lvl 2, so I'll likely be buying some of this stuff before I can hunt / quest for anything.

Thanks

Welcome to the server sir =)

If you see Bob online in EC shoot me a tell and I will hook you up with a welcome package.

You picked a good class to start here...you can lvl to 60 naked. However, your on the right track but smr, gbs are mid lvl gear..so a little spendy. fbr and stein are pretty cheap. So is int jewelry.

My advice is focus on lvls..the gear will come. Most people here are very generous.

I would get a pair of 5/55 rings (platinum fire wedding rings) before any of those items. At around 450-500pp for a pair, that should be your first purchase. Intelligence (maximum mana) does not help you as much as you might think, especially at low levels when +110HP will change your god damn life.

Necros are not very gear dependent. A lot of the items you listed, honestly, won't make much of a difference. After 5/55 rings pick up whatever cheapo items you feel like and focus on leveling. Your ability to make cash increases exponentially as you get higher.

Good luck with leveling, if you see tasslehof online shoot me a tell I've got some spare caster shit sitting on a mage alt that I've recently abandoned leveling up.

Yar.

Necros shouldn't worry too much about gear as my associate Ephirith has mentioned. Those rings are legit, beyond that just grab some cheap +int and +hp gear as you see it, and wear cloth in as many slots as you can. I'd save plat for the level 39(?)+ pets honestly (and even that won't break the bank) since they are research only and can be inane to find. Uh, but yeah I mean just level up and you will be able to make as much scratch as you can handle in one sitting farming later on.

Those rings help a ton early on. After that, just save your money and focus on grabbing jboots/CoS.

All you really need. (Jboots are like 6k or something now for the MQ. CoS maybe 1k?)

Gear isn't important for a necro for lvling. You regen your own mana, and you can heal yourself via lifetap. Jboots help you 10 fold in outdoor soloing. CoS helps you with a insta-invis. After that, build a good mana pool with some focus on HP.

With the Kunark expansion both the level 39 and level 44 pet spells can be found on vendors in The Overthere because they're also used by high-level Shadow Knights. Past that the Necro is on his own.

Awesome advice, all! I also appreciate the warm welcomes.

The great classic EQ community is probably what I missed the most, and I'm thrilled to have found P99.

When I first played, I saw a lot of the game, but not nearly enough. When it started to change and all the old (an in my opinion, the best) zones got less and less busy, I really lamented missing out. I'm ecstatic about having another shot.

Anyway, if you think of more tips, please share them here.

I will definitely be following this advice and will add you all to my friend's list. Maybe we can group sometime when I level up.
