Default 1017 Error that makes no sense!

So, It appears EQ prefers to alternate which days it wants to 1017 error. First day I played no problem, next day 1017, Yesterday np, Today 1017.... I can log onto P99 red server, but not blue. Nothing has changed from any of the days as to why I receive the error. When it comes to posting information on my computer I'm clueless.

Any idea why it works one day and the very next stops working when nothing changed?

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.], Back to original issue, can anyone think of a fix for this issue. It's quiet annoying not being able to level up.

Overclocked

From the FAQ:

****UPDATE FOR ERROR 1017****
Someone who was experiencing this issue discovered it was a problem with their hardware. Specifically, it was an issue with their motherboard. This may seem strange, but it only further reinforces a couple things:
Make sure EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF HARDWARE has a current driver
More info is needed for people who have error 1017's - ie, need more people hardware specs.

That being said, here is the solution this person found, verbatim:

My CPU can be overclocked to a further extend this is just a well known safe setting that Asus has for the clock boost. I never thought it would affect my ability to connect but the issue happened around the same time I did this and it immediately ended after the BIOs settings were returned to default.

If someone could shed light on this then please do tell, but I don't recommended overclocking your CPU even using manufacturer's settings.
I suspect people having error 1017 are having similar issues to this. I very strongly recommend *not* overclocking anything on your computer in order to play EQ. It seems to cause a ton of problems that are very easily fixed by just resetting everything to default. Basically, if you're getting weird errors or otherwise having problems running EQ, please try to turn off any overclocking you currently have turned on. This has fixed problems for more than one person.

Thank you Lyra, I have been reading up on these posts you reference. Really stupid question, how do I overclock or "revert" it back to normal speed. I have no idea how it would become overclocked in the first place.

Sometimes the overclock is not obvious, as in this example:

I went in and did some investigative research on what each option did. I had clicked "performance" but that didn't chance my clock speed. There was a setting that was on Manual instead of DOCP and once I changed it I saw the target clock speed drop to 4000Ghz from 4300Ghz

If you don't have any luck by tonight, we can trouble shoot over ventrilo. I'll try to pull a techie in with us.

Is your processor AMD?

Don't be intimidated if you don't understand.

You can click Start, then Run and type dxdiag. An information box will pop up and it will say Processor: *example* Intel or AMD blah blah

You don't really need to understand, you just need to be able to follow directions.
