Default A few issues just starting out

I initially played everquest when it was first released, quit for a while, then came back sometime between Velious and Luclin. EQ was my first MMO, although I had played many a MUD. Honestly, I had very little idea of what I was doing and left the game with pretty mixed feelings. On the one hand, the game was very immersive but on the other it had quite a few elements that were extremely frustrating (particularly camping. I remember staying up all night camping a spot with a group only to have the target never spawn, spawn and not drop the item, or lose the roll.)

Anywho, I now that I've been playing MMOs for a good 14 years I figured I'd come back and see how the game felt with the benefit of experience, knowing now what I do about the genre. I like the idea of a more challenging, more immersive game.

The one thing that I am having trouble with is how clunky the game feels. The interface is quite different from what I remember, and while I expected movement to be slow I didn't remember the controls being nearly as clunky as they are. In most games I bind strafe to A and D and turn using the mouse, but in EQ this seems impossible because even at 100% the mouselook is glacial.

Are there any obvious things that I am missing that make the gameplay smoother?

change your max fps to 60 and it'll fix your left/right mouse movement

I've also noticed this. I did the mouse look fix but there are times where I am strafing and click to look and stop running. I've gotten used to it but it gets annoying at times

Also, am just now realizing how constricted inventory space is in this game. I had totally forgotten about that. As a raw noob I can't even afford the ~1pp for basic bags, but I already have quests that are asking for three and four different items. I'm an Iksar necro and have three slots taken up already by food, water, and bone chips. Any advice on what I should do?

Watch for decaying skeletons wielding shields. Those sell for 1pp+ each.

I am new too and in my experience by level 4 or 5 you should have enough money to buy 8 bags, it's not that hard, just loot everything and keep selling, stick with killing skellies and things that drop weapons. For newb gear a little plat goes a long long way so just keep scraping.

Thanks for the advice - I'll do that. I just hate letting all these quest items rot!
