How does warrior taunt work exactly?

So Ive heard a lot of different things about taunt on this server, was hoping someone here could clear things up a bit for me and explain how exactly the taunt skill works here?

Does it only work if a mob is attack someone else? Does it only work on blue/green mobs? Is it just a broken skill?

Anyone know?

If successful, your aggro becomes the top aggro + 1. In other words, it puts you 1 point of hate above the highest person on the hate list. If you're that person, it does nothing.

I believe the mob has to be blue or lower for it to succeed at all.

first off taunt does not work.

Second and the truth is taunt will put you 1 aggro point over the second highest aggro when it does work.

example -

You - 500 aggro
me - 400 aggro
I taunt - 501 aggro (agro jumps to 1 point above aggro)

Now this goes both ways.

you - 500 aggro
Me - 600 aggro
I taunt - 501 aggro (aggro will drop to 1 point above second highest)

This is why its so hard for warriors to hold aggro w/o good procing weps.

Surely 2nd example puts you at 601 (one higher than the highest)?

Thats how I thought taunt works, or at least in every other game thats how it work. However Ive heard that isnt the case here, that it doesnt work correctly or something?

No it puts you 1 point above the SECOND highest. Thats why warriors NEVER taunt if they are holding agro, because it will actually reduce it

If it puts you above the second highest how come the mob sometimes turns from the guy it is ran to and started hitting hitting to the guy that taunted?

because taunt puts you 1 point higher then his aggro?

I can walk up to someone killing something and taunt the mob and the mob will turn to me. If dont do anything else other then just hitting taunt who ever does dmg will pull the mob off me.

1 point higher is not a huge gain and requires extra aggro of some sort to keep the mob from turning from you.

No. It doesn't.

The reason you don't taunt while you have aggro is so that when the stupid wizard in your group pulls aggro, taunt isn't on refresh.

Find me anywhere that suggest taunting when you have aggro makes you LOSE hate. Beyond your posting of course.
