Cleric PVP tips

Hey guys! My cleric is currently level 38 and I keep reading posts about how they rape in PVP. Obviously in group settings I can understand why this is, but is there any merit to a cleric in solo PVP?

I've had a few encounters that just ended up with me gating or my opponent losing interest. Beyond this, is there any hope or are there any tips for the optimal sequence of buttons to mash? Not nearly as experienced as you EMU vets to the ways of the PVPs.
