Are these commonly hunted, either by groups or solos? Or just slaughtered sporadically for JBoots? If so, where?

They're not commonly hunted just for the sake of hunting them because they come in groups and are often casters. They appear in many zones, as noted here: http://wiki.project1999.com/A_shadowed_man

Specific locations of some of those:
Innothule: underwater, near one of the giant hands, IIRC
Nektulos: in a valley near the EC zone line
WC: in the southwest corner of the zone

These are a really big pain to hunt when they are not greened out because you can aggro 8 of them at once if you are not careful. Are you doing a specific quest that you need an item from them?

Nope, just hoping to tag some for Sol Ro Temple faction so I can do my Armor of Ro quests.

you can turn gold into some npc in south ro? i think for faction. could be wrong its been awhile.

Yes. In Sro the orc and erudite in the corner (can't remember which one gives the quest). Can just hand in gold to up faction, that's what I always do.

If you need to (for any of the solro quests) the best camp is wc. There are 4 of the. And they're fairly spaced out. You may still need lull but it's a pretty easy camp to get doubles instead of 8.

avoid Innothule. You'll agro the whole hand just by pulling the ones from the bottom.
