Default Gauging interest in an untwink/evil roleplay group

Today I was thinking about how sortof bored i've become with the server. I still enjoy it, but i've been around since day one, and by this point, I have just about every class to 30+ as well as two 60's and a handful of chars in the 50's range.

I was thinking about how i'd like to start a new character, completely untwinked, with the mission of exploring zones we don't normally go to (Unlike the normal Befallen>Unrest>Guktop>Gukbottom>CoM>KC+ routine most of us do) I would like us to visit zones like Runneye, Gorge of King Xorbb etc and make an effort to only wear gear we've quested or looted. (No shopping in EC or accepting handouts)

I know this idea has been tossed around a bit here on the forums, and i've even gotten on board with it a few times, but for some reason it always seems to flop. I would like to try this again, but I thought i'd almost like to take it one step further.

When I played on live, I spent more than half of my time on Firiona Vie, which was a roleplaying server. Now not very many people roleplayed, they simply liked some of the server specific rules, but for those of us who did enjoy the roleplay, it was an EQ experience unlike any other.

What i'd like to do, is make a new character with perhaps a full group of other people, all under the exact same "no-twink" policy. I'd like to possibly go evil side (Ogre/Troll/Dark Elves). I realize there are Human Shadow Knights, and Gnome Necros etc, but i'd like to stick with just the three unanimously ostracized races from Antonica.

I'd like to even possibly have each of us hand in our PvP books; not necessarily to PvP, but to make sure that we're pretty cut off from society, just the way a truly evil band of outcasts might feel roaming the world outside of their forests and swamps. In addition to adding an element of realism to the aspect of being an evil band of misfits, it would also ensure we aren't grouping with those nasty Tunarean creations, or any other nasty brown-nosers

I know this really isn't most people's cup of tea, but I feel like it very possibly could appeal to a handful of people on the server, and honestly, that's all we need.

When: Play times would be most evenings, any time from 4pm-midnight EST. We would mostly only group with each other, soloing if we want in our down time, but we make an effort never to leave a man behind. We all stay within level range of one another, and if you begin to get too far ahead, hop on another character and let everyone else catch up

If you're interested in this, please comment or send me a tell. If you're honestly just not the type of player who simply can't play a totally ungeared character, don't bother. I want to make sure that all of us avoid hand outs, high level buffs, rots from mobs we didn't kill ourselves, any twinking or buying gear in EC (even if it's with money we've earned). If you want a Stein of Moggok, for instance, we won't buy it in EC, we'll use our Enchanter (if we have one) to do the quests for us etc.

Thanks for reading and considering!

Edited to add - I have zero interest in doing this on Red99, this is 100% a Blue server project. Thanks

I would be interested in doing this. I have role-played across many different MMO's and in my personal time on forum sites as well. I was, when I first came to p99, disappointed to see that there were no role play guilds.

I would be interested in doing this though I think your idea of "most evenings" is a little bit ambitious with many people either working nights on occasion or taking courses at university. In my experience when you create a role playing group (especially with people who have other characters, as I do, and doubtless others will too), you need to schedule one time a week or a couple of times a week at most or else people will begin to lose interest.

That is just my two cents, but I don't want to give up my main characters to form a roleplay group most nights which may or may not pan out.

I am certainly interested though, even if we don't get a full group.

I am open to playing whatever class, though I am pretty interested playing a dark elf, and would be particularly interested in playing a cleric.

However, in case this group were to break I would advise not turning in the books and separating ourselves from the server so that the characters would still be useful for something after the groups breaks, if it does. We can still ignore others for the most part by /role and creating chat windows which ignore OOC and /auction.

I've heard heresay of a controversial solution to general bordem with traditional Everquest:

I understand that some people have a very bad reaction to this questionable treatment, but many others report being fully cured of bordem and confirm increased blood flow too.

Well, turning red isn't permanent, and can be changed back if it becomes an issue later on, even if it is a bit more difficult as an evil race, but honestly I don't really want to switch back.

As far as "most evenings" is concerned, I do want committed people for this. Every time i've tried making untwinked alts with people, it flops because people don't want to commit. I think it's way to easy to detach yourself from a character, and a group of friends you only ever play with/interact with once a week. I want this to be 3 nights a week minimum.

Again, I think this project is perfect for people who are maybe a bit bored with the normal server. If you're concerned about taking time away from mains and not wanting to spend more than a couple hours a week on the character, this probably isn't for you.

I don't mean that to sound rude, but I really want this to be something fun, something the 6 of us look forward to doing every night "Oh, I can't wait to get home from work so I can play my new RP character! I really really want to finish my Stein of Moggok quest tonight!". It shouldn't be like a job that you're forcing yourself to do once a week just because you know 1 night a week on a different character will boost morale so you can get your main to 60 or whatever.

Also, I *am* a bit ambitious in what I want here. I don't need 100 people for this, I just need 5. I don't think it's really impossible to imagine that there aren't 5 other people on the server, who would like to do this and play most evenings.

Also, i'm not really thinking about "If this group breaks I want this character to still be useful". I'm making this character solely for the purpose of having a RP experience with some new in-game friends. Planning on it not working out from the beginning, and giving yourself every chance for a way out is just setting the whole thing up for failure.

Thanks for the interest Ketu, I don't mean to try and steer you away, but I want to make sure the people who want to do this with me, have the same heart for it that I do. It's going to be a slow grind, with characters in crappy gear, playing twice as much as the fungi wearing Monk buddy they know and leveling 3 times as slow. But it's going to be a good time, with good people, and a very classic EQ experience

I have a 30 Enchanter on Red, I didn't like the server at all. I want to feel detached from society as an evil race, but I don't want to feel like i'm living in a post apocalyptic world. I literally only saw maybe 5 other players on my journey through the first 30 levels, and I was in the popular zones like Unrest. Not to mention, the type of people who play on red really sour the roleplaying sensation.

I actually meant to write on there that I wasn't interested in doing this on red, and I thought I had...sorry i'm going to add it now

Its cool if you want to be that ambitious but it isn't for me.

I am looking for what you are talking about, an EQ slow leveling experience with RP, but I would be unable to commit to it so often every night for ---

A. I do still enjoy the server, but equally enjoy roleplay
B. I have a family
C. I have a career which has no real 9-5 time, as an academic, I am generally doing other things very often.

Thanks anyway.

No monks or bards in the evils of the world so you'd have to go Dark Elf Rogue. How does that make you feel heh?

I'd commit. Let me know if this gets legs.
