Default Disturbing trend in groups: if you die, you're dropped

I don't know if this is just my bad luck in Guk, but it seems like groups don't get the whole "Leave no one behind" mentality on this server.

This happened a couple times in the last week - both times pickup groups in Uguk.

Start camping - things go well for a while. Suddenly there's a train or unexpectedly bad pull or a LD, sometimes all three - this is Guk, remember. Things don't go perfect and someone dies. There's little interest in the group in getting the person that dies to their corpse, or battling back out to the zone line and dragging the corpse as you go.

For melee classes, it's doubly painful because you need to run all the way from Freeport to Guk then hope there's enough groups in Uguk so you can run back to your camp unmolested. Sometimes you don't have either invisi or lull or FD, depending on your class to make your trip easier.

The last situation left me and a rogue dead and dropped from the group. I had to join forces with another group just to get to my corpse.

I would just chalk it up to a bad night and maybe inexperienced players, but it's happened twice in the last week, and on my live server 8 years ago this was unheard of. I started in April of 1999 and have never had such a run of bad groups, even with people I didn't know.

Anyone have a similar experience, or is this just shitty luck? Has WoW screwed things up for the older players?

At this point I don't know if I'm going to log back in. If this is the new mentality, I'm not playing another game with such a painful CR process, or just not playing another MMO period.

Its the entire group's fault for letting you die (unless it obviously is your own fault). So they should be finding you a rez, let alone getting you back to your corpse. I would name names so we can avoid them. Remember reputations are supposed to be more important in Classic EQ than in games like WoW, so start ruining reputations when its deserved (imo).

Just bad luck man, I hope anyway as this has never happened to me. I always do what I can to leave each group member a good experience when disbanding.
And yes reputations go a long way in EQ, use that.

Thanks! Hopefully it's just a run of bad luck.

Sometimes it's no one's fault that someone died, things just happen. But I remember on the live servers I played on that if someone died the first thought wasn't getting more xp but getting the player reunited with their corpse ASAP.

We are talking about groups in their lower 20s, maybe there's a learning curve with people who aren't used to dungeons - oasis is PACKED on this server, but hardly anyone in Unrest or HH pass in the teens.

It seems like I'm encountering a lot of former WoW players as opposed to EQ nerds from 1999.

I think CR is an essential part of the EQ experience.

Former EQ nerd here, and proud of it.

I'm appalled at the thought of getting dropped from a group after a death. I'd be furious.

The EQ protocol has ALWAYS been to make corpse retrieval a group's priority when someone dies. I remember many times staying on long past when I needed to log off in order to help someone do a CR. After all, it could always be me next time who needs the help to get my body + gear back. As people said above, you are your reputation, especially with such a small population as we have now.

Yeah, but when you have to do a CR solo because the group thinks it needs another Cleric over another melee then it's not EQ anymore. It's WoW for free with a shitty death experience.

I'm just going to assume that was just a weird run of bad luck. Unless it happens again the next time I log on.

I've never had this happen to me. I've been in groups with people who bitch about how long the run is when I die, or people who bail as soon as people in the group die because they are too lazy to wait for everyone to CR... "Like, oh I just remembered I have to go walk the cat..." But I've never been removed/replaced.
