Game Mechanics: Can not bash wisps with magic shield, can not hit them with magic gloves

Shield bash does not work tried with two of my characters who both have magic shields, but keep getting the INVULNERABLE message for every bash. I gave my necro pet some Netted Gloves which are magic, but still got the INVULNERABLE message whenever he was hitting the wisp.

Are you using your slam or bash key?

IIRC slamming will magic item check the shoulder slot, not sure if it cares about shield.
