Question What happen to Classic EQ2?

**Sorry if this isn't classic EQ enough, please feel free to move it!!**

I played the game when it first came out, but I really didn't pay much attention because WoW came out like 3 weeks later...

I do here people speak fondly of it, and was wondering if any players from here can tell me what get nerfed and were there any big changes like EQ 1 Classic? Or was it just doomed from the start?

I was thinking of giving it a go and want to know what I'm in for [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I guess to turn this into a discusssion.

1. Did you move on to EQ2 when it launched?
2. When?
3. Was a short lived career?
4. How is the game in it's current state?

Yes I played it not on the launch night but a week or so in, I lasted the month's inclusive game time and then quit.

Told it recently here but again for the sake of this thread, they had a system in place where if someone in your group died that everyone in the group would lose XP - with the idea that it would promote teamwork. Only takes one idiot to start ruining things though and the tears flow fast... great trolling potential, they took it out quite soon after [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I didn't like the "teamwork" wheel or whatever it was, where if you hit a certain skill, then your tank hit another skill, and another member did something else it would trigger bonus damage or melee haste or something.

Rangers were actually rangers though, they got to fire arrows rather than stand there with a sword pretending to be a tank [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I played at launch, and I enjoyed early tradeskilling. There was a substantial degree of interdependency at first, which was challenging but also fostered a strong culture amongst the more active crafters. Similar to the eventual elimination of exp debt, they also gradually cut down on the interdependency and challenge of crafting over time.

Hmmm I might be willing to give it a go then, I just need to pretend its a brand new game and just play it without trying to compare :P that wont be easy, but keep the discussions coming!

this teamwork wheel thing sounds like what they are doing with EQ next, is it still implemented?

I guess to keep this EQ Classic related, I want to make sure it still has the dependency aspect of porters and such.

But were there any similarities of the likes that killed EQ? like no need for support (mercs) and like the new bazaar that kill interaction?

I'll never know if EQ2 was a good or bad game because I was a dumb kid/don't really remember much.

Although from what I do remember EQ2 looked like complete garbage. Those character models are worse than Luclin character models. The world looks like the Star Wars prequels had a baby with B-movie CGI and then that baby threw up and shit himself.

To think I had to buy my first graphics card because of that game.

I was boycotting EQ2 and WoW because they destroyed my live guild. I was mad, bad, and sad.

take all of you thoughts of EQ, other than a very small amount of the places/lore, and throw them out of the window for EQ2 - they are nothing like each other.

EQ2 was an ok game.

the crafting part of the game was dam good , later dumbed down as other person said.

Lore wise EQ2 was set i think 200 years later than current eq at time of eq 2 release but that did not fit in with EQ1 expansion plans so they changed it all up. At least that is what i remember.
