![]() So, I'm coming to P99 to play the old EQ I grew up with, but this time my Fiance Squidlet wants to experience it with me! She never played, and is really interested in playing an Ogre or Troll warrior.
My question is about my character, however, as I'm really unsure as to what to play. I'm really torn between a Dark Elf Enchanter, a Dark Elf Cleric, or an Ogre Shaman. We will primarily be questing together all the time, so I'll pretty much always have a meat-shield around to protect my squishy self. Enchanters have always seemed super interesting to me, but Clerics seem like they will be more supportive of playing with Squidlet. Shaman, on the other hand, seems like the best of both worlds and will also have a similar starting area. Enchanters get Illusions, though, so travel will be a non-issue for us. Suggestions?

![]() Chanters are super powerful, but that duo will be no good. You cannot heal and that makes for ridiculous down time if you are trying to exp. If you are trying to do even moderately difficult content you will die from lack of heals.
Cleric or shaman is a good choice. I would go with the shaman personally. They have a good amount of utility and their slows/buffs are perfect for a warrior. You also have the benefit of starting out in the same city. Not to mention you get sow at only lvl 9 and traveling is made a lot easier because of it. Cleric has the benefit of better heals/hp buff and eventually an exp rez. You will be able to duo with either the cleric or shaman. I say whatever race, ogre or troll, she picks pick a shaman of the other race. L'il diversity and you're both ugly anyways.

![]() I vote shaman!
Enchanters can't cast illusions on others, only themselves, so travel would still be a minor issue. Clerics only get invis vs undead, while shamans get invisibility at level 29. Shaman is a pretty decent compromise between the two classes overall, plus having the same starting area is great because traveling anywhere as a level 1 anything is tough. (Go go lady warriors!)

![]() Troll warrior/Troll shaman gets my vote. The regen will be an asset to new players.

![]() Shaman/War is a good duo. Warriors need a lot of gear to be good though...I'm guessing you guys will have to spend a lot of nights farming for her character.

![]() A Shaman needs even more than a Warrior high end. 300k to 500k in gear and spells is pretty normal for a Shaman. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
I would go Warrior, Cleric if I was you. Complete Heal is a game changer for a decked out Warrior, and with Velious coming out, a no Brainer. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

![]() If you don't plan on raiding, I'd definitely go Warrior/Shaman. A Warrior/Cleric combo would be amazing if you were looking to join a raiding guild and do all that nonsense, but otherwise, I think a Shaman would be easier to duo with.
Sow, later on make potions, tons of stat buffs, haste, slows, added damage to kill stuff, able to off tank if needed. There's so much utility there with a shaman, that it makes up for the lack of options on a warrior. I feel like having a Warrior/Cleric combo would be incredibly boring and not much room for surprises, plus at higher levels, relying on a non-twinked warrior for all your dps, would leave you OOM and rootgating. As far as Shamans needing 300-500k in gear, that would be at lvl 60 and 300 would be the max. As someone else said, roll Troll for the added regen, nice starting stat pools and you can get a snare neck.
