Default Static 4 man group. Would a Shaman fit?

So I've already posted this in the Melee thread because it is a toss up if I will play bard or shaman in a static 4 man group. The other 3 classes are Mage, Necro, and Chanter.

Would love the Shaman community perspective :-)

here is a link to the original post.

Shaman fits in any group, but so do bards.

For dungeon purposes the shaman will be more effective than the bard once mobs are in camp. Getting the mobs to camp in a controlled way favors the bard, but you have an enchanter so it doesn't really matter.

Shaman brings more to the group I'd wager.

Shamans bring slows, 3 minute root, buffs, blast heals, torpor at 60, dots, and ~20 dps from buffed max level pet. Ultimately it's that 75% slow and ability to blast heal. Your pets will likely end up tanking and bard regen won't hit them.

Bard bring more hp regen (doesn't help pets), mana regen, some "ok" dotting power, pulling, and assistance with with mezzing.

That necro will be hard pressed as a group healer. A bard can only heal slowly as well, so when things get out of control, a real healer would be nice.

The group role of a bard is about the same as the role of a chanter, so you have a lot of overlap. I would recommend shaman or any other healer, maybe a cleric would be even better in the long run... or a druid if you want to have your own ports and evacs.

I think a druid would be great for this group. You would be adding SoWs, Heals, Ports/evacs, Damage Shields/Str Buffs for pets, and the druid can Charm animals for more pet DPS!

I would go with the Shaman. A Shaman will give your group actual healing spells, added DPS from the Shaman nukes, dots, and a fourth pet. Plus, your group now has SoW, another rooter, and stat buffs to make your casters less fragile.

Most of the stuff that a Bard would bring to the table are redundancies that your group already has covered, and as Troxx pointed out, their songs won't affect your primary tanks — the pets. However, a Bard is a great pulling class if no one else in your group is willing to take over that role.

the real question you should be asking is: shaman or cleric.
if you pick both and drop the necro, you have a sicknasty endgame farming group with rez's and call of the hero, but it all depends on what you're trying to do.
if you're just playing for fun, or want to have a sweet pet class leveling group, you guys have a strong combo but you could benefit a lot from a real healer. necro and ench already fill a lot of the same niches bards do in small groups.
