You must not have played on live pre-kunark? Four times as many people, but the same content. You were lucky to find something to do, let alone something productive =P

I remember on live you had to be smart to find mobs that were not generally camped.
People here try to hard to get the popular camps, when there is PLENTY of mobs sitting around even at peek hours uncamped.
It seems like most people on this server are lazy and impatient, and wont settle for anything other than the most popular camps.

If you have trouble finding a camp to xp from on this server (even with 900+ ppl on), then you are doing it wrong.
I have never had trouble finding a good place to xp, at any time.

I loved the overpopulation of live eq.

Running through any city and having it full of players, people doing tradeskills, camping guards, duelling, or just dicking off.

I remember running through NFP and seeing casters sitting at the end of a single alley waiting on the respawn of 1 guard because that was the only thing in the game they could kill.

yeah it would suck, but it would have slowed things down a lot. There wouldnt be 1200 lvl 50 chars on the server, or 2 or 3 new lvl 50 chars for sale everyday people would actually value the hardwork they put into the grind.

Just my 2 cents, cant wait for kunark hope the pop DOUBLES and we see cities live again.

Start a new character, part of why EQ works is people starting new characters, keeps a healthy population at all levels. Once there was enough to do at high levels, then EQ became too spread out and much much harder to level up. Besides end game is boring, at least for me.

i got my mage 1-45 in a couple days of playtime, generally being the only person in whatever zone i happened to be in.

I don't know how my /played was almost 14 days when I only played from march to july 1999 and was only level 13 (close to 14). I never left my computer unattended when going to bed back then so i am unsure how I accumulated that much. Even now with all of my afk time (even falling asleep and leaving it) I get to level 14 and past in maybe 2-3 days /played. Back then I didn't know about a lot of the quests or popular places. I just played to see all of hte different sights and sounds. I can understand that much, but it's still hard for me to grasp how I had that much /played at almost level 14.

My belief is that people leveled up a lot slower back then because it was new. Also... if you play this game solo a lot and you're not a mage or druid or necro you'll have a large /played and a lot of frustration, but it's a challenge too and some people will do it because they don't know better. Even now I have larger than normal /played on non-solo characters I solo too much (when I shouldn't). I prefer soloing though because I'm not tied to a group and do not have to stick around when I want to go afk or do something else.

I know that at the lower levels there're a lot of unused camps because people go to the popular places. There's room for two to four times more population in the lower level zones i'm sure. I have no idea about hte high levels, but it's pretty common for games to release with not enough high level content, especially for hardcores.

I rmemeber clearly seeing 2000+ on servers during live.

3 groups camping the goblins in HHK was awesome!

In general a better quality of players means that we are camping areas that would have had multiple groups back in classic.

Plus in my peak time it rarely gets above 300 right now...
