Default New to P99, questions

Hello, I am new to this server (Haven't yet downloaded everything). I played during Kunkark's release as a Mage and Enchanter raiding most Kunark/Velious content.

I am going to be playing casually, maybe 3 hours a few nights a week. I am curious what classes are in demand from a lower level as well as from a raiding aspect when I finally get to raiding level.

I am interested in any of the priest classes, a bard, or an enchanter again. From reading a tad here it looks like Druids don't do much during raids, and Enchanters are basically just buffing/debuffing so that sounds boring. Bards concern me because it seems like twisting nonstop would get very tedious and boring, but I like the versatility they can bring to a group. My brother raided with a Shaman so I liked the buffs, slow, haste etc. they bring to the table. I never mainly healed but in WoW I got into healing and have healed through recent content raiding. I like having SoW/Selos so a cleric kind of turns me off a little. Druid seems to be pointless later since their DoT and DD aren't that strong and they lack in heals. I don't recall, do they buff over other classes in raids? I love the oldschool travel where teleports are needed so I really like the idea of a Druid from that standpoint.

Will I get groups somewhat easily as any of those classes? I read tanks are in demand early on but not really interested as a main. Also what else concerned me was apparently if you aren't hardcore you can't really raid? I have read a tad, so of course I am only getting partial info here. It seems like only the top guilds get to run raids really.

And lastly, I read one topic of a new classic server. Is this server going to get rebooted soon to classic? If so, should I even bother starting before that happens? Of course IF that happens?

Thanks

Sounds like you want to be a shaman. ^^ They are great for solo, group and raid.

No, there are no current plans to wipe this server. If they launch a new server, it will likely be a different one. That is in all likelihood several years away though.

I definitely am leaning towards a Shaman, but if they are in abundance I may change my mind. I really want to be a sought after class. I learned the hard way playing a Mage and never could find groups so leveled an Enchanter back in the day.

Oh and I was reading how classes like Necromancers got nerfed, what changes have been made where a class may not be what we remember from this era of EQ?

Shamans are great and can do some healing for the tanks [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Every class is in abundance (especially enchanters and shamans), so just roll what you like. If you can solo fairly well you don't need groups that much anyway, just go kill and put LFG on, and you will find a group sooner or later at busier hours.

What are the busier hours out of curiosity?

American and Euro evenings, also weekends during pretty much the whole day.
