Default Frustrating Spell File Issue

Quick background:

I'm an airline pilot and spend an average of 3 nights a week at various hotels. I play on an ASUS laptop running Windows 8.1, 64 bit, dual core (1.80 GHz each). I've had zero issues with playing via hotel wifi at about 15 different hotels over the last month or so.

Last night I get to Tallahassee, sign in to the Candlewood Suites wifi via their provided password, and check my connection via youtube, lol. Seems fast, so I log in. I get in to game in EC, auction for a few, swap characters (also in EC if it matters) and then crash trying to get into the world.

Back to youtube, connection still solid. Try to log back in, spell file error message on the character select screen, disconnected. So I grab my ethernet cable and hit up the wall connection. Still solid speed, try to log in, same error.

I go back to the V45 file download, grab it, drag and drop to EQ file, replace all, double check that all of my required files to delete are gone, and they're still gone.

Log in, same spell file problem. Try again, and WTF, it lets me get to character select screen with no spell file error. Try to log in, disconnect, and then spell file error on the next 3 tries to log in. This is where I gave up.

Any clues what else I could try? Is there ANY way that this particular hotel's connection could be the issue? I really appreciate any help I can get. My time spent in hotels is usually pretty lame w/o something to kill time. Thanks guys/gals!

I guarantee you it's the hotel's connection. Check to see if there's any other available public WiFi, or hit up a coffee shop.

I find it odd that just a weird connection would alter how the client pulls data from my files. But I hope that was it!

Those companies that provide the WiFi monitor it like hawks. They prolly locked you out of that specific port because it violates or they thought I was violating their TOS. Call the WiFi providers and talk to them and square it away. Once you nerd out on them they will be like awesome press a button and tell you to wait 5 mins and try again.

Know from experience from a hotel in Milwaukee that did th same to me.

It wouldn't be disrupting how your client loads information but theoretically it could be inhibiting/preventing the server from receiving data from your client if there's intermittent packet loss or something else wonky going on.

E.g. server asks, "Do you have P99's dsetup.dll?", shitty hotel connection takes a dump, server never gets a response and thinks you don't have the updated P99 spell file.

Default Same Issue

I have had this same issue tonight. I have been playing fine nights before. Today I either..

A. Can't connect to server
B. Connect with SpellFile error at character select
C. Get disconnected when trying to zone in.

I have reinstalled the V45 files and I have ran the All in 1 installer multiple times. I still end up in the same circle.

Thanks for the input guys! I'll try this next time it happens. I am back to a trusted connection and has zero issues logging in last night. Also had no problem falling asleep and losing 3 levels in a death loop. /cry
