Default How can a bard solo a summoning mob?

I can charm another and stick it on the summoning mob, but then when it breaks, I get summoned and two mobs hit me.

I can probably handle one 52+ mob hitting me, but not two. Any ideas? Charm mob 1, mez mob 2 before charm breaks, and re-establish your pet??

You can snare+fear it, or twist Mez/Heal songs when you get low and hopefully out-regen it. You should not try to do two at once, you should lull one if you have two

You could try charming but you need to be so sharp with the recharm (I'm usually off by half a second each side guessing the moment it breaks).

What happens when you try to fear a mob that is permanent rooted (ie in PoM)? Does the fear take effect and they turn away from you?

You can't time it perfectly just based on your cast and the duration...you'd have to be watching the server tick, which means up to 6 seconds after the duration ends.

I usually roll the charm and restart it halfway thru if there hasn't been a break yet. I do this even on non-summoning mobs if fighting in tight areas or inside.

As for solo'ing the summoning mobs folks already mentioned the two best strats:

1. Snare/fear/dot kite. I once was able to do the named bug at NG in seb by pulling it into the water and fear kiting it...mostly to see I could. it worked, took forever and probably annoyed whoever was actually at NG.

2. Tank and spank. Mez the mob when you get low life and regen. Rinse and repeat the 10k times it will take you to do this. I believe I did this and number 1 in combination to kill the skyfire drake for his guts for bard epic...also a long and painful fight.

Charming would be risky. If you get a perfect recharm off you could possibly avoid both mobs beating you for one round, but its unlikely and even a few hits here and there would make doing this a roll of the RNG.

Remember that summoning mobs don't summon every round, so if you can keep selos up and have good gear and buffs you will be able to have a larger margin of error.

With the exception of the rare quest mob you want to kill on your own I wouldn't suggest making a habit of bard soloing higher lvl summoning mobs.

Good thing I bought a singing steel bp... Makes the Regen time much faster.

What I was thinking though is to pull the mob back, mez the summoning mob, so that I have about 10 seconds to recharm and send it back to fight. Viable?

Your best charm song in classic will only charm up to lvl 51...so if you charming a lvl 51 summoning mob this would work. If you are solo'ing anything higher than no charm for joo.

You can do up to 3 summon mobs as long as they can be mezzed. Do your best to time charm switches for as little time taking damage as possible, using the cast / recast half way method mentioned above and roll heal song between. Once you get lowish on health just switch to mez x 3 and then heal song til you are back to full health and resume charm killing.

I did drolvarg warlord + 2 bodyguards solo using this method so it can definitely be done, just takes a while. I more did it just to see if I could, many duo or group combos would be much more suited to take on this type of fight.

Does being summoned interrupt your songs?

When mez works, I had some luck with timing mez + dots. time mez to land just after server tick. this seemed to work more effectively than tank n spank on certain mobs in Skyshrine. When i hit 50% hp i would let dots die and just mez + regen hp. mind you this is entirely situational and is only effective if you have excellent timing.
