Default Characters won't load - Server specific ?

I'm hoping someone has some advice for me, because I'm stumped.

2 or 3 days ago, everything was fine and I was having no issues playing. Today I tried to log in and load a char. My client froze and I had to force quit. So I tried again, then I tried a different char, then I tried my other account...and I couldn't load any of my characters. Each time I had to close my client and relaunch to try again. If it matters, I am using WinEQ2. Strangely I feel like the server is successfully loading the character because the next time the client loads and I try to log back in, usually there is still an active character on the server delaying my log in.

Next I decided to try and log in to Red. I don't have any characters on that server, so I made one and had no problems loading! Confused, I went back to Blue and tried to make a new character. Character creation was fine but loading still wouldn't work on that server.

So it feels like I've ruled out my installation and my accounts, because both work on Red. I doesn't seem to be an issue with my characters on the server either if even new characters can't log in. What on earth is left?

Thanks so much!

You might try deleting (or renaming, as a backup) the character-specific .ini file, eg. Loramin_project1999.ini.

You'll lose settings that are specific to that character, like friends and macros, but it might help if that file is somehow messed up.

Thanks for the response!

If you're referring to the files UI_Olgruk_project1999.ini than I already tried that...sorry I forgot to mention that. Unless there is a different file without the "UI" in front, but if there is I don't know where to find it.

Download the latest p1999 patch, overwrite existing files and try again. The dll calls different functions and files and parts of files depending on server chosen. Since red and blue have different rulesets, IMO you corrupted a file particular to blue.

Yea, I left that step out too...I did re-download v50d and overwrite again to try and fix this, but with no noticeable difference.

Hypothetically, couldn't I have corrupted something particular to Blue that just isn't part of the most recent patch? Should I consider re-applying previous patches?

Thanks!

I don’t know how many times I’ve reinstalled p1999. I have a known good install folder I just copy over from. I would just do that.

I can't explain it, but on a whim I tried again this morning and got one of my chars loaded. I'll experiment some more later tonight, but it looks for the moment that whatever was wrong righted itself. Thanks again!

I'm having the same issue. 2 characters refuse to load while 2 others work. This all started just after the Oct 8th server update. I've reinstalled a couple times from CD and tried on 2 different PC's. I've tried with Wineq2 and without. I had a GM move one toon that was stuck to EC and was able to log in for a short time then the same problem cropped up. Always when i zone.

Resolved. Having a high frame rate monitor seems to be working against me. Also monitor scaling in Windows 10 seems to have contributed to the instability.

Since my last post, everything had been fine for nearly a month...and then yesterday the same problem occurred again. All of my accounts are unable to load characters on the Blue and Green servers, but Red continues to work fine. The same is true for character creation.

Any new/additional thoughts? Thanks!
