Default Indifferent to Class Selection

Hey all, coming back after a LONG time away. Got my UI and everything setup yesterday and going to start a new character. Im pretty indifferent as to what I select so what would you suggest if Id like to raid/group/be useful later on.

Playing on the Green server if there's a shortage of any certain class that would help.

Cleric, Tanks as always will be needed in groups.

Many players hage by this point made their solo toons (shm, enc, next, Dru, brd, monk). Lots and lots and lots of these classes banging around on Green.

Rogues and wizards will never go out of style as far as raiding is concerned. Clerics always too.

It's nice to have a solo toon thst you can log on if you're not having great luck finding groups. But if you want to be an in-demand class: cleric, rogue, wizard, tank

Play the toon you want to gear. There are plenty of guild shared toons you can earn dkp on in order to outfit your personal character.

Enchanter is the best choice. There's no contest.

- You are top tier solo class and don't need half as much gear or expensive spells to pull huge things off.

- You are a top tier grouping class, in fact probably tied for best grouping class with cleric.

- You are an in demand raiding class.

- You lose nothing starting late. There are no legacy items that no longer drop that would have been amazing to have but that you can't get or won't be able to afford. Maybe a sleeper drop but seems more like a sidegrade to me and you wouldn't notice the difference anyway.

- Any of the available races as enchanter are legit. Erudite have better int and +5 mr, high elves best cha, humans best sta, gnomes don't need to cast gnome illusion to wallhack, dark elf has hide. Play what you like without feeling bad about it.

- Enchanter gear, at least most of it, is relatively cheap. Spells today are also rather cheap. Raid gear and any upgrades you get will give you a tangible benefit as you attempt more difficult content and thus it's worth to invest into your chanter.

Downsides? Some argue it's stressful, since pets can break and kill you. You also have no feign death so can't rest 100% safe anywhere. The Epic is difficult-ish, but not mandatory anyway.

Just make sure to go agnostic and put max points into charisma.

Upside to what was said above: you get really good about 2 things: naked pacifying baxk to your body and accepting death and corpse runs as part of the game

Unpopular opinion: corpse runs are fun - playing without gear / with min gear to retrieve a corpse is an interesting change to usual game play dynamic of just fighting for new drops / xp / faction.

I've never enjoyed recovering from a failed break-in to Fear/Hate myself.

Hate: Pre-kunark 3am red-eye with 16 players no monks and your tank is a level 49 paladin wearing bronze and wielding a stein with no dmg or stats. I loves it.

To counter a common theme here:
Enchanter spells are expensive, the second most expensive apellbook. The only one you don't need for raiding is dictate, but if you want to farm any real plat solo(sirens, chardok) it is essential.
Boring on most velious raids, buff + tashbot.

But fun sometimes for raids to, ct and aow for instance you can charm ridiculous mobs and be Top of the parse.
I enjoy my enchanter, but usually raid on a rogue bot
