Default If you were advising a brand new player on a class,

what should the brand new player choose that has never played EQ?

My vote goes to one of these soloers because they will need to build some funds for other classes they wish to play. Also they will get a chance to see the game and get to know leveling spots. Last the soloing will help because they will know no one yet.

Out of the soloers; Necro, Druid, Mage, Bard, Shaman, Enchanter. I would recommend the Necro or Druid

Which would you recommend for a brand new player to the world of EQ?

Make him go druid for the ports. Traveling can be a downer to people just trying EQ from like WOW.

druid: solo is slow....real slow
necro: snare/fear kite - ezzz
mage: focused fire pet til 50 - ezzz
bard: swarm kiting = fun only if you're good
enchanter: more utility, can solo and easily find a group after 40ish
shaman: slow solo, great utility

fastest way to hit 50 is either mage/necro imo.

The reason I am not sure about necro or druid for a new person is, when I played a necro back in 1999 it was tough kiting until I got my journeyman boots. After that it was fun.

With the speed of mob issue on this server, it may frustrate a new person. I personally do not see how druids and necros do it with how fast the mobs move here.

DEFINITELY don't suggest to a new player the baby-town-frolicks easy road, because I guarantee this will make them a bad player at the high-end game. Also don't worry too much about helping the player rush to the highest levels .. release of the Velious expansion hasn't even been announced for P99 yet, so it's not like there is any reason to be in a hurry about getting to max-level. For the greatest ease-of-play and access to the EQ world for a total EQ noob, I would definitely suggest a druid. They get SoW, invis, levitate, ports, and can charm so there is plenty of variety for the explorer as well as the XP'er!

druid soloing is fairly slow until 34 when you can effectively quad mobs. i mean, the downtime is still there, but the xp yield soothes the burn of sitting for 10 minutes medding up to 100% mana.

mage is fun to play but could get boring fast to a new player(esp from a faceroll game like WoW).

shamans are great for new players since you get SoW at lvl 9 and never have to worry about running slow again. also, they receive a pet in their mid 30s that helps quite a bit with soloing, and they are the ultimate buff sluts.

i wouldn't suggest bard being unfamiliar with the game. knowing what songs to twist when can get hectic in a group atmosphere, and aoe kiting would probly be tough for a new player to pull off.

enchanters are great to have solely for breeze/clarity, and they aren't bad soloers to boot, albeit a different kind of soloing than the other classes, but it works! they're also sought out for groups for le mezzes which will help in later levels when soloing xp slows down a bit.

it really comes down to the person's play style and what they enjoy when playing an MMO. overall though, i'd say go with a mage to get a feel for norrath. then, you'll get familiar with the game, and also rake in some cash to twink a new toon, once they've figured out the bells and whistles, if they so desire.

hope that helps ^.^

hey for shamans post lvl 34+ is not a slow solo, you just have to know where to go, but at 51, still trying to find that perfect solo spot for a few lvls
